HELP!!!! Overpayment of wages!!

Hello am new here so I hope you can all help me. I was overpaid in my last job and we paid back what they asked and had a letter to say that the overpayment was cleared. Last week (almost 6 months later) they phoned to say there had been a mistake and we still owed £98.13. We have had a letter this morning asking for the money back. I am annoyed as they told us we had paid and I have a letter to say this.It has taken them nearly 6 months to find out this 'mistake' and now we have to pay again!!Is this right? Do we have to pay back even more???
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

    hello
i think they are taking the p!ss. if you have written confirmation of the debt being cleared then that should stand.

    What a useless bunch.

How much was the original overpayment and did you pay it back when asked.

You could maybe write to them and say in view of the original amount and how quickly (or not) you paid it back...without dispute etc etc.....would they now consider the matter closed and agree to write off this further amount as they had previously advised you that it was now cleared.

    :heart2: THANK YOU MARTIN!! :heart2:
  • Original amount was for 398.13 and we paid 100 a month for 4 months. We thought we had paid off what they wanted but then we get this phone call and letter saying that the original amount was 498.13 not the 398.13.They has applied a payment and then raised an invoice hence the clerical error.
  • I Am sorry But if you have the letter stating this was paid then it's paid its not your fault for their mistake
  • Brilliant!!!!
    That is what I thought
is there anything legal that says this though or should I just write a letter saying that as it is their mistake I am not willing to pay? It is a borough council we are dealing with........
