Money lent..can I get it back?
Bare with me on this one guys..
I have lent some money to an ex, who has disappeared. Well..sort of...
I transfered £2000 from my Egg card (STB) to help him out for his sisters wedding (in America!), so I can prove the money has been sent to his account and that he recieved it ok.
He also owed me from out previous relationship (£2000), so totalling to £4000.
Since then, he has left his job, and I think moved out.
I have emailed him (no reply), called him (no reply), until today!! Where he answered but pretened he could not hear me.
He did send me an email stating that the money would be in my account within 7 days, but nothing. But I do have that email from him as proof.
Is there anything I can do?
I know where his parents live..if that helps?
Any advice would be appreciated.

If he won't pay up, the only thing you can do is take him to the small claims court. But be warned, if he isn't bothered about having a CCJ against him, you may still never get your money.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

As LazyDaisy said, officially you would have to take him to court but that will be messy and expensive.
Are you still on speaking terms with his parents? If I were you I'd speak to his parents under the guise of trying to get hold of your ex because he owes you money. The shame MAY spur him into action although if he's blown the money then I expect you'll still get nothing.
Usually at this point, a few handy male friends who could "negotiate" on your behalf would be helpful.0 -
Ok people! Thanks for your replies!!
I may well keep you updated...
Have a great Christmas!!0 -
The Small Claims Court is not expensive or messy - well at least the online version is not. It can all be done through https://www.MoneyClaim.gov.uk.0
