Always found the Witchery overpriced and pretty poor fare.

Try Rhubarb, Oloroso or the Tower for the same price as the Witchery but better food.

For more reasonable cost take her to Jackson or Dubh Prais on the Royal Mile.

    I love Black Bo's
  • Fishers (Thistle Street) is good if you love seafood, Black Bo's and Banns are both good vegetarian options. La Favorita on Leith Walk does great pizza.

    Otherwise try here for ideas:

For Italian: Guiliano's was great when I went there - just opposite the playhouse.

Another vote for the Sac Polly here :) We went for our wedding anniversary a couple of years ago and had a wonderful evening.

Stac Polly is pretty good. It's a while since I've been, but the Atrium (at the Usher Hall) used to be very good too. I've also heard good things about the restaurant (Forth Floor?) at the top of Harvey Nicks. Oh, and what about the new Bistro that Valvona and Croalla have opened in the new street between Harvey Nicks and the St James Centre?

One suggestion from her for somewhere romantic:

The Vintners Rooms “If there is such a thing as sacred geometry, then the original historic Vintner’s room has it. Beautifully proportioned and corniced, it is lit only by candles in the evening, and qualifies as one of the most romantic restaurants anywhere. The larger dining area is another deeply atmospheric spot with its well-seasoned wood panelling and crackling fire for cold nights. First-rate food from new proprietors, Laure Pages and Patrice Ginestiere includes a voluptuous squid ink risotto with roasted prawns and fragrant home-made sorbets.” Joanna Blythman (The Vaults, St Giles Street, Edinburgh)
