Put the colour back into velvet?

I've just bought my daughter a show jacket from e-bay (for horse riding). It's navy blue with a velvet collar and the colour has worn out of the velvet collar.

Has anyone any idea how to get the blue back in it?

It's dry clean only so can't use a wash in dye.

Thanks :)

I think you will have to re-cover the collar, a small piece of velvet should not cost much.

Oh crikey  I don't think I'm skilled enough for that :o

I was wondering if I could go over the collar with blue marker or something :o

What about using a permanent marker or a material dye pen (these used to be available in the likes of Hobbycraft, don't know if they still are)?

I used to do that to cover a bleach stain on a carpet... go over it with DD felt tip pen.... you're lucky. Grey is hard to match! At least with navy it shouldn't be too hard.

Yes, I think it's the answer. If not then I'll have to take it to a seamstress to replace the collar.

I once got a hole in a pair of black tights while I was at work so.... I coloured in my leg with permanent marker :rotfl:

Well, I got a fabric pen from Hobbycraft and last night I tested an inconspicuous part of the collar and it was BRIGHT BLUE . I ummed and ahhed for a few minutes, put it down and came back to it for another look. I finally decided that if I messed it up I would end up taking it to be re-covered anyway so I bit the bullet and coloured in the collar.

The result? Perfect!!! :) It's a brighter blue than the original but it looks fab and the jacket now looks like brand new icon14.gif

Many thanks for your help. :)
