I have a subscription for a gym membership and I havent gone for the past couple of months!! I was wondering if anyone has ever cancelled their direct debit before the end of their 12 month contract and if there was any consequences?

I cancelled mine before the 12 months (I had a baby) and they just sent me a letter asking me to pay one month's membership as a cancellation fee, which i did, that was the last I heard from them.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Might depend on the wording of the contract, though: worth looking at it before you cancel the DD. Also might depend on whether you have a good reason for not going - illness or injury for example.
But some of the gyms make their money from signing people up for 12 month contracts: they know most people won't keep it up!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
it really depends on what it says in the contract, just by cancelling the direct debit with your Bank, the contract is not effected, it just means you become behind in your payments. With something like a gym I guess it would be less serious than say a loan payment, or your council tax.0

When I cancelled my contract early with a JJB health club I gave the required one months notice and payment, I also sent letters to the manager of the gym and to their Head Office via recorded delivery. I never heard another word from them.0
