There is a generic "prove it" letter here:

Or if you need them to produce a credit agreement to show that the debt is or isn't yours, then this link:

Don't phone them. Keep everything in writing.

  • Thank you for your swift reply.

It makes me angry to know there are companies out there who use scare tactics to gain money.
Dont get me wrong, if they supply me with documents to show the debt is mine i will appologise and pay the debt but i am addiment this is not my debt.

On anotther note, if this debt was due to my ex-wife, how do i stand then? i left the marital home back in 2000 and was divorced a year later (in between solicitors were involved in the split) how do i stand then?

    Regards

If the debt was solely in your ex's name, then only she would be liable.

If the debt is joint (i.e. a joint account or credit agreement) signed for by both parties, then you would be joint and severally liable for it. Meaning that a creditor would be entitled to chase either or both parties until the full amount is recovered.

  • With regards to your reply. If my Ex without my knowledge entered into an agreement using my name, i guess i will not be liable and she may be in trouble?
I am not saying she has but i am thinking of a worse case scenario!

Like i said, if it is my debt i will pay
  • i have received a letter ge capital f n t f ltd for a amount of money i do not owe wat can i do they do not wont to tell me were and when it is from
  • Once again send the prove it letter. They have a responsibility to prove you owe the debt, not the other way around. You shouldn't provide them any details at all, just send them the prove it letter.

To the previous comments, If your wife took out credit in your name without you knowing, this would be fraud and should be reported to the police and original creditor as soon as you are aware of it.
