Has anyone worked at Monsoon? - 2nd Job

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has worked at Monsoon, I am currently thinking of taking on a second job to make ends meet, as I am studying part time. The local branch that I contacted today have a Saturday vacancy, which would suit my present commitments of work and study.
I work two and a half days a week and earn £15K, any advice would also be appreciated about the amount of tax I would pay on my second job. They have not confimed the starting hourly rate, but I am presuming about £5.80 an hour which for a Saturday based on 8.5 hrs would be £49.30. I really need to decide if it would be worth it, also based on the fact that I would have to buy monsoon clothes just to work there.
Many thanks.

If it is a second job and assuming you take your complete tax free allowance in your main job then you would be taxed at basic rate and recieve no tax free allowance in that job. You would be taxed 20% on everything you earn at the 2nd job.0

Thanks Mudd14 for your quick reply, I was getting to the point where I was about to quit my studies and return to full time employment again, and I have another 21/2 years to go. This is a great help, I will definitely take on a second job to make ends meet, or else I will have to start dipping into savings for living expenses which I really do not want to do, as I saved long & hard and have a good deposit for a house when I qualify.0

Don't assume the hourly rate, phone up and check. I'm assuming you are youngish if you are a student so unless you are 22+ you are not guaranteed the full basic rate.
There is a lower minimum wage of £4.60 for those aged 18 to 21 (£4.77 from 1 October 2008).
My son at 17 works in a shop within the M25 area (so Greater London) he works all day saturday and Sunday and gets £3.60 which is just above the minimum rate for his age.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just one other thing as well, don't forget you don't get paid for your lunch hour so I you work 9 - 5.30 and have an hour lunch you will be paid 7.5 hours.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. With Monsoon, you do get 75% off clothes, I think it's up to £250 worth.
You will get taxed 20% on that job.
Even though you're a student, if you're earning over the £6000 and whatever threshold everyone else has, you pay tax like everyone else; I found this out the hard way myself!!0 -
I work for Monsoon now and it's a brilliant company! Yes you get 75% of clothes with your primary discount and by only working one or two shifts you will only need a couple of things! I would definately do it. Out of everyone i've worked for in my career they really are one of the best companies ive worked for.
You wont lose anything by giving it a go! Good Luck...get in there quick tho, jobs go very quick!!0
