The High Court in London will consider a bankruptcy petition filed by the Inland Revenue and while no figure has been put on how much Gascoigne owes, it is understood to be significant.
At his peak, Gazza earned more than £1m a year as a player. He also secured multi-million pound sponsorship deals to promote football boots and aftershave.
Gazza's fortune was once put at £14m but the more money he made, the more he would spend on the high life and became a heavy drinker.
He was also generous off the field, giving more than a million pounds to charity.
Official court documents for the bankruptcy hearing describe his occupation as 'unknown' and his assets are now reported to be near £250,000.
Gascoigne has battled with drugs and drink throughout his life and much of his money has been lost in failed business ventures and an expensive divorce from his former wife Sheryl. He has also spent thousands getting treatment at re-hab clinics.
He played for England 57 times, scored ten goals for his country and was always popular with fans.

They forgot to mention his brilliant footballing renaisance at Rangers. I beleive he is stiil a god up there despite that amazing goal in Euro 96.
