I was thinking of a full starter kit really. So he could at least make a few pints - not actually sure how they work, but I will have a look at Wilko's at the weekend. Thanks!Fantastic Expectations Amazing Revelations0

Our Wilko in Cardiff doesnt just do the brew in the bag types but they also have bigger kits as well as the brewing bottles and piping.0

Home Brew kits *lol*
My one and only attempt at doing this, was back in 1985! When i was just 16!
It tasted horrible! *lol*

Yep, still on Quidco at 5%...
I haven't done homebrew for about 10 years... mostly because of lack of space in the current place. From chatting to people, many have had bad experiences based on the dodgy kits available from Boots in the 70s and 80s. I've been assured by those in the know that the quality of the kits is vastly improved - tempted to give it a go again... if only I can find somewhere for the demi-johns and plastic bins to go!
Have fond memories from my twenties of the quiet plop-plop-plop sound of the airlock going.Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0 -
For quality, your best bet is to track down your local Homebrew shop, who will be able to advise on what's best, and you should be able to produce something with good results. But as other people have already said, you will needs a reasonable ammount of kit I would guess a £50 spend.
I was in a hawkins bazaar the other day and saw this:
http://www.hawkin.com/find/keyword-is-beer+machine/product-is-00220
No idea what the end product is like, and as I already have my own kit I don't need it, but it looks interesting and it only £25 - although it does only make 10 pints at a time, where as with 'proper kit' you'll make 40 pints at a time.
Hope that helps0
