I bought a dress at next a few weeks ago but it just doesn't fit (i know i should have tried it on first) and i want to return it but i dont have a receipt.
I dont mind getting vouchers in exchange for a refund, but my sister told me that without a receipt they just won't take the item back at all?
Anyone had any experience of this?

Stores don't have to take goods back or issue vouchers, but Next tend to give vouchers for the current price of the item (so if it has gone down in price in a sale you won't get the price you paid originally.)
Alternatively, if you paid by debit/credit card, they may accept that as proof of purchase.0 -
Thanks, i paid cash and its an item thats just in the stores so hopefully they'll give me vouchers.0

I was going to say the same thing. If it's gone down in any sale, maybe try seeing what you could get for it on eBay?0 -
Next are pretty good, they may give you the last sale price and allow you to exchange. How come its taken you 2 weeks to find this out?0

I used to work for River Island and then Arcadai (Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, Wallis, Topman and Burton), I can say that if you have bought something and would like to return it and its in resellable condition (eg does not smell of smoke, is not dirty, is not streched out of proportion etc) you should be able to get an exchange.
Some stores also will let you have a voucher, but if its in the sale, some rules have been so that you must exchange it for a sale item.
If what you have/want to take back has been added to the sale, you either get back an exchange to the value of the sale item, or you can call up customer services and tell them whats happened and they can sometimes help.
If you spent the money on a card (I know you said you didn't but if you did) then you can show our statement and get an exchange for the full amount tha way. Some stores if they have the time (ie do not do this saturday afternoon!) can look back on their systems and see if your amount ties in with what you actually bought and then refund you that way. But its something that takes a while so obviously if all the staff are required on the shop floor, looking through till system reports is not possible. Monday morning would be a good time to ask them to do this if you realy want a refund and have a bank statement.
As with all ecxhanges with a receipt its 28 days.
The fact that you are allowed a refund with a receipt is according to the trading standards, the stores trying to be nice as they are not obliged t refund for money already spent, they do so for customer service and to be on the side of the customer (thank God!) and some stores do refuse refunds and exchanges for this reason. Some just refuse refunds (HMV for example will refuse refunds and just allow exchanges). So where the law stands its worth remembering this as it could save yu £££ of being on hold to customer services to stores I have not mentioned here.
Hope that helps someone!0 -
Primark won't take anything back / offer an exchange without a receipt (tried to do take sometthing back today with the label attached to Southampton store) and were very firm with their response0
