Hi Everyone,
this is a tricky one. In january i had a look at my credit report and there was an account for O2 that was 6 payments late. So I phoned them and said i didn't know what this was and had not received any letters etc. I got passed to several different people. In the end a guy said he didn't have enough information to enforce the collection of the supposedly overdue amount. So very kindly cleared the balance and closed that account. Reminded me that it would take up to 60 days for the account to show as settled on my credit report.
All good i thought. I have had another look at my credit report, and that account now says settled, but defaulted. So in the time it has taken since the closure of that account to update my credit file, time has elapsed and the account defaulted. That is now going to stay on my file for 6 years!
I have had no joy getting to speak to someone who can help me at O2, the first person i spoke didn't even know what a credit file was! Does anyone have any suggestions?

It sound like it has been taken out fraudulently in your name, in which case they are not allowed to record it against you as a default (or anything else other than CIFAS - fraud data). I would ring them and ask to speak to their Fraud/Complaints department or better still get an address and write to them so you can keep copies of what you have said.0
