Anyone have the problem I have...stretched ear lobe piercing?

Hi all....hope I made no one laugh with my thread title!
I was just looking at all the threads and thinking about anything that has made a big difference to me recently....and I couldn't help thinking about the problem I have had with my earrings for years. Sounds so trivial....but after years and years of wearing heavy dangly earrings, the 'holes' in my lobes have stretched lengthways to the point where they are vertical slits, making earrings hard to wear, and the 'hook through' type virtually impossible to wear. Not exactly earth shatteringly important, but if you like to look good - and I do like my earrings - it can be annoying. It also makes me feel like a really old lady - my granny had the same and it fascinated me as a child! (maybe I should have taken more notice in biology/genetics!)
Anyway, I thought the only solution was plastic surgery. Very expensive; they just 'punch' out the area on the earlobe, and allow it to close and heal again, then you get re pierced.
You can also buy ear supports; small pieces of plastic tape you stick to the back of the earlobe. These actually work really well, but again, they are expensive if you are using them every day.
I recently discovered if I use a small piece of Micropore tape (available any chemist) or 'Transpore' tape (which is transparent and invisible if you have short hair) just cut a small square and stick it to the back of the earlobe, you can then re pierce this 'second skin' with the earring, and they sit perfectly in the ear, and hang like they used to before the hole stretched.
A roll of tape is about 99p, and is worth using even if you don't have stretched lobes, (yet) as they offer a huge support to the earlobe if using heavy chandelier type earrings as are fashionable today.
Strange tip, but one I wish I had discovered years ago!

On the other hand, you can buy stunning large gauge jewellery in steel, glass, wood or bone - probably a bit tribal and more suited to people who like body modifications in general (piercings, tattoos)!Cogito, ergo sum.0

you could get your ears pierced again, above the first piercing -- it would look like a 2nd piercing, but sometimes us ladies just have to do things like this!!!Carla-Farla!!

My daughter who is 18 actually has what they call 'flesh tunnel' piercings in both of her lobes. Basically it makes a gradually larger hole in the lobes, and now you can see straight through! I really, really hate this look and have told her that her ears will NEVER go back to how they were. Shes such a pretty girl and has been asked to do modelling in the past. I feel like shes ruining her looks. Teenagers eh??!!!???
Steph...you could try having your ears repierced above the original holes. I may be wrong as you would have to ask a REPUTABLE body piercer....but the original holes may give the new ones some support underneath due to scar tissue? Please check this though. If so id give it a try if i were you.0 -
