Bookmark the following into your links toolbar so you have a visible link called D or Dictionary which is visible on your firefox screen or IE screen. Location is:
javascript:{void(q=prompt('Enter%20word%20to%20look%20up%20at%20Dictionary.com:',''))}if(q)location.href='http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=1&q='+escape(q)
When you click the bookmark you get a dialog box where you can type a word in and it will return the definition from dictionary.com in a new tab or on your ie page.
Enjoy!.0 -

Thank you for that sainthalo. It always annoyed me having to go via my bookmark to dictionary.com to find words. This will certainly speed things up.

No, not quite. This is the online version of the Oxford Dictionary of English, which is a 2000-page single volume dictionary containing about 350,000 references. I have a hardcopy of the dictionary, and I would thoroughly recommend it (although it is £35). It is drawn from the full Oxford English Dictionary, which runs to about 20 volumes I think.
The full OED is available online but you have to subscribe. To be honest, I can't see the point of subscribing to the full OED unless you are a specialist working in language research or something.

Just checked and the full OED is £195 for 12 months online access... making the free Oxford Dictionary of English even more of a bargain!0
