Where's the catch?

Options
First of all, apologies if someone has already asked about this, I did do a search but couldn't find anything.

So, I came across this survey site - HomeSurveyWorkers.com

I know a lot of people here make a bit extra cash doing surverys, but this is one of those sites claiming that you can make a living from just doing a few surveys a day - so naturally I was skeptical.

Thing is, I can't find the catch! You have to pay to join, which would normally be a big no-no. But it only costs $2.95 (about £1.50?) to join, and they'll refund that if you're not happy or don't make any money.

So even if the catch is that they don't send you any surveys, you could just ask for a refund.

I'm tempted... Can someone knock some sense into me and tell me what I'm missing?!

Firstly you have to pay $2.95 to join and then after 7 days you are billed $39.95

Why would you pay to join a survey site when so many are free to join? They are relying on people signing up, paying their fee, then forgetting about it, or not going through a big fuss to get it back. Free money for the company.

Really? Where does it say that?

My other thought was that maybe the site themselves don't have their own surveys. Maybe when you sign up, they just send you a list of existing free survey sites and tell you to register with them all to make money.

It's kind of a scam. Most sites like this don't have their own surveys. They will just send you emails telling you about survey companies that you can join. Which will be all the ones you have already heard of, like Lightspeed, Toluna, GlobalTestMarket, etc. So you might as well join all the usual ones that are listed on here somewhere, instead of paying some scammer for info which is available free.

On the signing up page when it asks for your card details here

''I'm going to take the risk off you completely by letting you join today as a full member for only $2.95. If you decide to stay a member we will charge you a one time membership fee of $39.95 after 7 days.''
