Funkymonkey - is your name on the mortgage? My boyfriend is moving into a flat very soon, if I move in with him what is the discount likely to be as I'm a student? My name won't be on the mortgage.

    Thanks in advance!

Yipeee and everyone pays it and gets less services Merry Xmas Suckers...

    Dont take it personal please....
  • well we dont have a mortgage we rent but, it doesnt matter whos name is on the mortgage. my sister is a student and both her and her husbands name is on mortgage but she gets 25% off. once you have your letter from uni stating you are entitled to the discount then you can get it. for example (and this should probably be in the student thread but hey what the hell)

Man + Women or Man + Man women + women etc = 100% council tax

one of the two becomes a student. council remove student from the council tax register (and not electoral roll) which leaves

Man on his own :( who as a single person living there (in the eyes of the council) gets 25% off.

this is not bearing into account people get council tax benefits etc.

Good for you. I'm looking forward to my 2 months of not paying....but the savings will go towards my next car service as it will need a new timing belt (ouch)

  • Speaking of council tax, i noticed that once again the papers are talking about an increase. Yet many people fail to realise that this has already happened in Wales and very little fuss was made. My payments this year are £84 a month (thats with my 25% discount for living on my own, will go up to £113 when my GF moves in sometime next year) compared with something like £65 last year....

It's interesting to know what services you Council Tax actually pays for, and in my case I am paying for things that I am either not entitled to or do not apply to me, ie recycling - im too far out of the way (yeah, i live in the sticks) for them to collect my recyclable materials, yet the wagon drives past my house  and streetlighting as well, the first two street lights I come to when leaving my house don't work!
