in Cutting tax
hi everyone,
hopefully someone can point me in the right direction regarding a tax query I have please?
Over the last five years I have had a sporadic work history due to freelancing, travelling and then studying. In each of the last five years I have worked for about 2-3 months total and suspect I may therefore be due some tax back. However having read some of the threads I noticed that you need your p60/p45 from previous employers and I don't have these and was wondering what I should do in this situation. My last five years income (estimated) is listed below if this helps.
Year Month Income
04-05 April & May £7,500
05-06 August & Sept £8,000
06-07 June, July & August £13,000
07-08 May to November £1,500
So for the first three jobs I was straight onto the higher tax band although I can't remember what i paid.
Any help / advice much appreciated.
Cheers, Martin

write to the HMRC and provide them with your NI number and a list of each employer with dates and ask them to check your tax position ... do you have any payslips .. that would help a lot0

Thanks Clapton,
don't think I've got any payslips - always been a bit of a muppet with these things. Letter to the tax office on its way.

If HMRC don't have any details from some of your employers and you don't have P60's or P45's then you will need to contact the employers and ask for a "Statement of Earnings". If you received taxable benefits you need to get those details too.
Also since your employment has been sporadic it would help your cause if you could list your periods of employment, travel and unemployment in chronological order as before a refund can be issued HMRC have to ensure the whole of the tax year has been accounted for. You don't need precise dates but month/year start and end dates would be helpful. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. That's very helpful, thanks pam.0

Sorry to highjack your thread - but I saw your situation is similar to mine and didn't want to start a new thread on it
I used to work overseas during the summer and temp in the winter and didn't think I'd be able to claim anything back because I was paid £300 basic wage into my UK account every month during the summer. Does anyone know if this matters or should I contact HMRC anyway?0
