80s Party costume ideas and decorations

Hi all.

My girlfriend is having a "24 again" party with an 80s fancy dress theme. I'm struggling at the moment for ideas, currently i've got Rambo or a ghostbuster. Has anyone got any better suggestions?

I've let my hair grow pretty wild in anticipation of the party and i think i'm nearing the point of being able put it up as a flock of seagulls.

In addition, any decoration ideas would be really useful.

Many thanks

  • how about Adam Ant? Or get a shiny shirt, thin tie and a shiny white jacket and go as someone from Spandau Ballet/Duran Duran?
    Michael Jackson......ermmm? Prince?
  • How about one of the Young Ones or Miami Vice? Mr Blobby or Roland Rat? Bob Geldof? Arnie Schwarzzenager? This is more difficult than I thought!..

My memory of the 80s is rather vague so sorry if any are actually 90s! Based on what people were wearing at an 80s party in the summer

    Bananaman
    Rubiks cube
    Miami Vice
    Knightrider
    Madonna
    Cyndi Lauper
    Michael Jackson
    Prince
    Bon jovi?
    General 80s rocker
    Adam Ant

My friend went to an eighties party as Siouxsie Sioux and looked fabulous. I went as a random goth (sisters of mercy/bauhaus/the Mission) and looked rather less fabulous - but it was cheap as I still had all my gear from the 80s so I just recycled it! There were some great Breakfast-Club inspired outfits - think Molly ringwald in big polka dot dresses. Rolled up sleeve jackets are good for men, and skinny ties. Smash hits posters for decoration!? Oooh, also Dallas and Dynasty for good character outfits.
  • Hi thanks for all the replies.

I'm not really any closer to making a decision yet. I love the idea of one of the young ones, miami vice and roland the rat. I'll have a look on google images and work out waht might be easiest.
