mortgage advisor as a career?

Options
i have been wanting to be a mortgage adviser for some time, but due to own money hassles have not been able to even consider a career change. now i am about to become BR myself, i thought yes at last!! didnt for one second that i would not be able to try pursue a career change. something now tells me that being BR may totally stop this in its path. anyone any ideas or views on this?? the logic/gutted realisation is dawning on me.............
many thanks for anyone who can advise me, or is in the role? well all views appreciated!

i would be surprised if mortgage advisors can be br.

i used to work in a bank and you had to have good credit rating. i am also a qualified accountant and i would be struck off my professional body if i went br

would love to! thought getting rid of the debt would have given me the opportunity to, but job pays bills etc, so cant really consider starting a new career, at bottom as i would fully expect to. i have been on MSE for a few months now, and used peoples kind and supportive advice to get me to the point of sort of no return now, id say. stopped paying mortgage, moved out of home to rented, all but booked the appt at courts now. but thanks for the, if not wishful on my part, advice!!!
  • I don't think you can work in financial services at all if you have a poor credit rating. Not regulated, anyway. Sorry. :(
    £5 a day in December £179.59/£155
    £100 on STP by 31 January 09 £2.03/£100
  • Maybe you can just delay your dream job for a while? Maybe think about doing some work in debt counselling, as you will certainly know all the ins and outs of that pretty soon. Use the time to build your credit rating back up, and then re-train as a mortgage adviser. Just a thought.

would it be feaseable to consider this after br? if one could get credit rating back up? once discharged etc?

as an IFA / mortgage broker and recuiter ( mortgage brokers/ IFA's and FA ) for a very large IFA national company. all companies need to do a fit and proper test on an individual. If you become bankrupt or insolvent ( ie IVA ) at ANYTIME the Financial services authority who registers all types of advisers in the Uk will not allow you to become an adviser of any sorts. Ie bang goes your new career for ever. You most have a good credit rating and the company does an annual credit check on you - if you have serious problems - they will sack you. Its to protect clients from hard up advisers who in the past - committed fraud on clients and then legged it or sell wrong products to generte commissions.
