Moorcroft demanding money for debt that has been paid
Sutra
I had a doorstep debt collector turn up at my door yesterday evening saying that Moorcroft has instructed him to try get 45.83 (sorry, pound sign not working) from me on behalf of BT. He couldn't tell me for which account it was for and he said I would have received letters about it, which I hadn't. I distinctly remembered having paid Moorcroft for a closing balance of my old BT spare telephone line and even this debt collector guy remembered it as it was him that I gave the cheque too and it was for around 180 pounds. I told him to go back and ask Moorcroft what this debt is for as I certainly know nothing about it and have not had any letters.
So today I get a letter from Moorcroft, dated 2nd November saying that I owe them the amount above for my debt with BT. That is the first letter I have received from them about it. I finally got my husband to call Moorcroft and he queried this debt, only to be told that it has been settled. My husband insisted that they write to us to confirm this. He then spoke to BT themeselves, who told him that the outstanding amount was paid by me in January. He queried how the debt management company used by BT is billing people for a debt that is almost a year old that has been settled? BT has said that they will look into this and will get back to us.
Anyone with similar tales?
