BT Debt

After leaving my partner I had cancled my phone line and broadband as I moved back to my parents house. Because I cancled early I had to pay the remainder of my contract, £470. I diddnt have that kind off money lying around so told BT I couldnt afford to pay that especialy as it was for something im not even using anymore. I was told i could not pay in installments and if I didnt pay up I would be taken to court. Now I have recived a letter from a company called Moorcroft claiming I owe them £800 for my BT service. Does this mean BT have washed their hands of me? and can this company nearly double the amount I owe for 'admin' costs? any advise will be greatly apreciated.
