NI Shortfall - Class 3 - working abroad

NI shortfall - qualifying years

Hi moneysupermarketworld! Can anyone help give me a clearer answer than HMRC/NI office. I'm confused and a bit stuck.
Before I donate more of my savings to paying Class 3s, do any/all of the approx 4 years working/contributing in the EU count as qualifying years for my UK pension?

If you are employed why not pay class 2 conts - they confer the same pension benefits and are much cheaper, about GBP10 per month. The EU conts will count for your UK pension.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
