Please help with an apllication form and covering letter

I am currently attempting to find part time work after being a sahm for 5 years and finding it hard.I am trying to fill in an application form for a teaching assistant level 1 job (dinner lady )and I am really struggling, they want a short supporting letter with the completed form, what on earth do i put in it??,I have some experience as a parent helper at my childrens school, have helped out on trips suppervsing small groups of children etc, and recently did a course on helping and working in schools. How can I word it so it stands out, this is the 4th form for simmilar jobs i have completed and have got nowhere so am going wrong. Any ideas as to what i can put in and also the advert states the post could be extended to level 2`for staff who show potential and addentional skills which would be great, any help would be greatly appreicated

spell check and paragraphs is a good start.

I would try to give a short punchy opening paragraph to the letter. Saying where you saw the advert or if someone refered to you the opening.

For example "I write in response to the advertised positon/having been refered by ... blah blah blah... Please consider my resume in your search for a teaching assistant."

In the next paragraphs try to give a summary of your relevant qualifications or experience, those which directly apply to this position. Its in your CV I'm sure but grab them with the good points in this letter.

Try to emphasise what you would bring to this position using the job description or any information you have about what they're looking for.

Sound positive at the end... "I look forward to hearing from you" or something similar.

As Ivrytwr3 said type it and spell/grammar check before printing. Maybe even get a friend/relative to read it first.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

something like this..?(and do remember the spell check)

I believe that I have developed a wide range of communication skills and am confident in my ability to communicate with people at all levels.

I enjoy working as part of a team and understand the need to ensure that I organise and prioritise my workload. Further, I present myself in a professional manner to service users, colleagues and other agencies. I can use my initiative and seek assistance from colleagues if required.

I have a sound knowledge of emergency first aid procedures and would be willing to attend any necessary training to bring my skills and knowledge up-to-date.

I have worked with children and young people in various settings and believe that I am flexible, well-presented, approachable, reliable and maintain a good sense of humour.

Don't say 'I write ...' as it is a letter - obviously you are writing! Start with 'I am very interested in the position of xxx advertised in yyy. I believe I have all the skills you are looking for and would be an excellent addition to your team.'

    Then sell yourself!

And don't be discouraged that you've been rejected before: such jobs are VERY sought after, for obvious reasons!
