"no more free socks I'm afraid. we've been noticed by 'freebie' websites in the UK and have been bombarded by people registering who may have no interest in yoga, or what we're about as a company, or the wonders of bamboo clothing, they just want free socks, so we'll honour every one, but cannot now give any more away...sorry! we had 5,000 requests in one day... to those guys, really sorry but we're a small company who just can't afford to give any more socks away, we'll run out of socks and money!!
So now please only sign up if you are genuinely into yoga, pilates or the gym."

shocked!! I love yoga! Before my job got in the way I would do 5 plus classes per week, some being 1.5 hours long! And I also love bamboo clothing- swetty betty has it and I go there specifily to but it! It works really well at not causing exma as man made fibers do and its really really soft and has a great natural colour.

Am glad they say they are going to honor it, will email to say thanks and also to say that I am interested in both yoga and bamboo as a fabric. I hope I wont be alone in doing this -hint hint!

I feel really bad for them having clicked the link and read this message :(
(I really was interested in the socks for doing yoga etc)

Have to say I sympathise with them - it's a great freebie type, as not everyone will have felt bamboo, and as they are an online retailer, ppl won't get a chance to feel it in a shop before purchase - but there are so many people from reading on this forum and others that just grab anything as long as it's free - it can get a bit addictive and I did read something the other day, then think 'oh I'll apply for that' then stopped and thought 'hmm, but I don't think it's really for me, or I will really use it' so changed my mind. If they are a small company then this will be costing them a fortune and with the current economic climate probably not something that they can afford. Think its a bit mean for people to sneer at them for closing it now, especially as they have promised to honor all those that did sign up before they stopped it (not that everyone on here was sneering, most were very nice, just annoys me the odd bad apple...)
Good on them and they shall go on my list for Xmas pressies :)
Do not feed the trolls please.

I'm hoping I do get some, as I've read a little about bamboo fabric but no idea where or if it's stocked anywhere on the high street, so I'd be quite inclined to order from them once I've actually seen what it's like.

Well, I got a very nice email for David, the owner of the company and he asked me if I would post this for him (I'll just add that I don't have any connection with the company):

"I will definitely send out socks to everyone that signed up, as a deal's a deal. And if I thought even 10% of these guys would actually end up buying something down the line then I'd happily keep running the promo. But I just don't. so our fault for being naive I guess. I can't blame someone for taking up on a freebie, but I didn't realise just how fast and efficient the community got hold of this info and spread it! If they want to prove me wrong, I'd love to hear.

And here's a top tip: if anyone does want to buy any bamboo clothing for Christmas, (a) it really is fantastic and will be well received by anyone; (b) we'll run more freebie programs because I'll be proved wrong and will see that it does work (of course it's to give people a taster - I didn't risk my house and everything I owned to get this company up and running to then just give it away in free socks...)"

He also added a discount code for 15% off purchases, which I'm aware I can't post here, but I'll post it in the discount vouchers forum.
