Just to clear a few things up you can negotiate a salary restriction for the first 13 weeks of your JSA claim, similar to your current salary.

After 13 weeks the restriction is removed however you can continue to look for your chosen occupation for a further 13 weeks after that you are expected to take a job that you are reasonably able to do.

As you are pregnant I think that you are unlikely to be referred to a Decision Maker for Actively Seeking.

I not sure about your Income Protection Insurance - this may be taken fully into account against JSA in which case you would be signing on for NI credits.

  • say you suffer from stress due to the pregnancy. If they put a job infront of you you do not like, tell them no as it may upset your baby.

    Play the system.

When I was unemployed for 3 months once, they put loads of rubbish jobs infront of me, I just said I had problems with my joints and a bad back.
  • I have been on JSA for a year now, and haven't had any real hassle from the job centre, or pressure to apply for lower paid jobs--why not you work shy maybe?????

Probably not worth working. I work 55 hours a week, and a lot of people on the dole are better off than me.

Try and get on disability, they sometimes give you a car. Find an small ailment and play on it.

If you have to go to an interview for a job you don;t want, I'd mention the pregnancy straight up and say you are not sure you really want to work after the birth...should put them off!

I got made redundant whilst pregnant and claimed JSA (Cont), as others have said some staff when you sign on try to get you to apply for anything and others realise the situation and just let you sign on. I applied for jobs for the sake of it to be honest but always mentioned I was pregnant and planning on going part time afterwards....funnily enough got no interviews.....

OP - I wouldn't worry if I was you as it is really difficult to get any sort of job at the moment. It is highly unlikely that any employer would give a permanent job to someone who is pregnant.

if youre getting insurance then wouldnt you declare this money as income ot the jobcentre
meaning whilst you are unemployed you wouldnt be getting paid and jobseekers (or whatever they call it) allowance, rent etc?
if that was the case i doubt you would be high on their list to harrass for getting work in 6 months

the one time i was out of work for about a month or two
i was in the job centre every day on those terminals but when i went to 'sign on' i didnt really get asked any questions as such

Always remember that the Job Centre staff are told to get you any job. So that the governments jobless figures look good. They dont realy care if its not enough money to pay your mortgage etc etc.....

Simply not true, why do JC staff do better-off calculations to encourage people to work?

Some of these posts are making sense to something that has been happening at work. I gave my notice in and today is my last day of employment technically (my last shift was last night). So, we have been advertising on Jobcentreplus for a replacement. Some of the application forms have left us gobsmacked. Yes, girls that are 6 months pregnant, 3 girls that have stated they suffer from panic attacks, depression, mood swings etc and as this job is for a hotel receptionist, some of the time you are all alone in hotel - we've had an application from someone who has said they don't like being alone!

I have called some for an interview (not those above) and they clearly haven't wanted to come in, I can't do that day, I can't do the day after or the day after. There were four interviewed yesterday, one turned up in dirty jeans and trainers!

So, if you are pushed use one of the tactics above! On the question of pay, when my mum was in receipt of JSA not long ago (beginning of the year) she showed them that with the pay some jobs were offering she couldn't afford to even get there let alone eat and the people at JC were fine about it. She just had to write down which jobs she had applied for each week.

A terrible thought working for less than you think your worth......... is that why you are now still unemployed?

I have always found it much easier to get a job from a job. and if i lost my job tomorrow then i'd work for the min wage if i had to for a few months.

just because you have an MBA what right does it give you to sit on the dole .......

As for the op, good luck but i think you should sit tight on your insurance for the 6 months, and then worry......

    GD
Who said I was still unemployed? I am still registered for JSA I don't actually receive much, if anything, in benefits as I have found part-time work while I look for a job!

I have had plenty of interviews - many at MORE than I was earning before, and I usually get down to the last 2 or 3. If this was not the case, I would have taken a lower paid job ages ago. While I am still getting this far, I will carry on looking for a good job rather than screw my CV up with a lower grade position.

As a point of interest if you think someone is actively reducing their chances of finding work whilst claiming JSA they can be sanctioned for upto 6 months. Let the JC know...
