Do creditors ever stop hassling you?

Hi all,
Wrote to all my creditors way back in August, and now on a DMP with CCCS. First payment through them due this month but I have been paying token payments until now. But I am constantly getting letters, statements, demands for money and umpteen phone calls from some of my creditors. One in particular, MBNA, keeps reinstating a direct debit with my old bank, and I keep having to cancel it through internet banking. I literally have to check my account every day! And yes, I have informed my old bank not to make anymore payments to anyone. Is this normal and will they eventually get the hint I do not have the money to pay them and take notice of the offers from the CCCS. It just feels like I am being totally ignored

  • There is a template letter somewhere on here (I apologise, I'm terrible at links) that you can send to each creditor informing them that all further correspondence must be in writing. Insist that they remove your phone number from their records, andnot use it to contact you again.

Can you ask your bank to switch you to a new account number? That would stop MBNA from reclaiming the old debit. I think you must put that in writing to them too, that you revoke the authority given to take any and all DD payments. After that, reinstating it would, I think, be fraud. Send a copy to your branch, the head office and the financial ombudsman, with all addressees listed.

If you areon a DMP, then refer all the creditors to the CCCS, who should be able to restate the terms that were agreed, and politely tell and the creditors to back off.

I hope some of this helps.

    Good luck x

  • first off, change your phone number. never ever talk on the phone to your creditors, or they will hassle your forever.. second, change your bank account. that way they have to deal with it all by letters, which you forward onto your DMP manager.

I have changed my bank account, which I now use to pay all my monthly bills. I cant close the old account with LTSB as it is overdrawn and I believe they wont let you close an account when its in the red.
I dont really want to change my number but I will certainly ignore any unknown numbers until this settles down.

no you cant close it if it is in the red BUT ask your DMP manager if the overdrawn amount can go into your plan. i cant see why not. or leave that account as it is and just dont touch it. give them a couple of pounds a month or something.xxxxx

Don't speak to them on the phone. Yes, they do stop eventually, just takes a bit of time. That said, I've been on my dmp since January and one of my creditors still rings me constantly. I'm in the process of writing to various places to get them to stop.

If you do happen to speak to them, give them your CCCS number and tell them to call CCCS and hang up.

I have already included my overdraft in my DMP. To be fair, up to now the bank hasn't given me much trouble, only the credit card companies. They just dont seem to understand the meaning of ......
