Petrol Paid for a company vehicle

in Cutting tax
My friend is self employed and works with his dad, receiving a lift to and from work in a company van.
He has on quite a few occasions paid for fuel when for instance his dad hasn't got his wallet on him but has never had them reimbursed.
Can he now claim these on his tax return as expenses?
Thanks

dont think you can claim for petrol going to and from your place of work, wherever that may be. sure there must be something online about claiming expenses for the self employed. who does the van belong to?? him or his dad??0

Hi many thanks for your quicky reply.
Yes you're correct that he can't reclaim personal mileage i.e from home to work.
I think i've answered my own question now that i've had some time to think about it.
Its his Dads van and so what i think needs to happen is that he gets reimbursed from his Dads pocket (as it should have been in the first place). His dad will then be able to reclaim the business portion of his mileage against any petrol expenses.0
