If you still want to buy presents it's probably best to make a list before you go with suitable alternatives if the item you want is unavailable.

I used to panic buy when the things I wanted were sold out and I'd end up with stuff that was much more expensive just for the sake of it.

At least if you've thought it through you've got a better chance of staying (sort of ) in budget.
