Great:xmassmile Just as I finally got my giggles under control about is the duck dead and all sorts of pictures in mind as to why one would be sniffing a live one - you introduce the cat:snow_laug
The stinky duck title was enough to set me off but this is just getting better - although not for the duck:santa2:0 -
I agree with Pal. It's probably Mallard or possibly Teal i.e. it's a wild duck, that's probably been shot recently. It's OK for it to smell gamey and, as Pal says, possibly even a little fishy.
Re the plucking - it's probably been done by hand. It's virtually impossible to pluck a bird by hand to the same standard as the poultry you get in the supermarket. If the remaining stubble bothers you, then just skin the whole thing (you'll need to joint it, first). Or simply roast it and the heat of the oven will singe off any remaining bits.
It's seem a pity and, dare I say, a little insulting to whoever went to the trouble of shooting, plucking & drawing it, to simply "sling it". If you can't bear the thought of eating it, perhaps you could pass it on to someone who will. Sorry, that sounds like a ticking off and it's not meant to be .... do you know anyone who might enjoy it?
I currently pluck & draw about 20 birds (pheasant & mallard) a week at the moment. Bloomin' hard work for the end result ... but then, to me, there is nothing quite like fresh, well-hung game even though some of it will go in the freezer for consumption outside of the seasonWarning ..... I know - feed it to the cat and if it isn't ill, its OK to eat.

Oh, I just read the title wrong!!0

well i cooked it, and we had it for tea
i must admit there wasnt as much fat as i was led to believe, but then again, it was a very small duck
whatever, it tasted lovely
thanks, Flea0 -
Assuming it was a wild duck, they are nowhere near as fatty as their farmed counterparts.
Glad it was nice and that you survived the experience!0
