  • Thanks guys

For the first time in months I can see light at the end of the tunnel - in 7 months I can clear one overdraft - in 18 months I would have cleared the bulk of my debt - I will be debt free in three years! which seems like forever away... but really.... by the age of 25 I will not have any debt! woooo hoo!!
  • sensible, level-headed woman. wish I'd been like you at 23.

£12000 pa for a grad is rubbish, but I live in Devon, and my degree is in Public Relations. trying to find work down here in that field is shocking...i am very lucky to be where i am.

Is it worth asking for a pay rise? In my experience, if you don't ask you don't get. I'm not suggesting that you go in all guns blazing and demand it, more a sales job on what a great asset you are to the business, but if you've been there a couple of years and its all going well, then you must be doing a good job and will be valued by your employer. Even if the answer's no, I'm sure you wouldn't get into trouble for asking.

Try it - you might be surprised!

    Good luck!

  • Hi There

would love to ask for a apy rise - only been here a month!

Devon pay is crap! i feel is hard cos i'm from essex orginally - good pay, but me chaps in the Navy so i am stuck down here!

I think i will try to take on a second job in jan, even if its just for a couple of months, just to try and clear some of it!

I feel like such a !!!!!! (scuse the language) I just keep thinking if i had just stopped in once in a while when I was at uni.... i could have saved some money beforee i started uni... i could marry a millionaire....
  • You did right getting !!!!!! at Uni, if you cant have fun, within reason, when you are young what is the point of living!!

I had a friend who left uni with about 2K overdraft and couldnt pay it off.

He was with a fairly sensible girlfriend and he discussed the debt with her. She knew they were in a fairly serious and stable relationship and they discussed the drawbacks of the overdraft on THEIR financial position. He was basically getting nowhere in paying off the overdraft due to the bank charges and interest. So he asked if she could help him out by paying a bit off it off for him.

She was fairly sceptical at the start, its your debt, you did it before you met me etc etc. Once he explained the cost of it in monetary terms and the strain it was putting on their relationship she agreed but he did tell her that he would pay the equivalent in monthly installments back to her over a year.

Little did he know she had some savings so she paid it off in full. He paid her 200 back per month.

She got her cash back in under a year, it wasnt gaining that much interest, and they paid their debt off and she got her money back.

Cant you speak to your partner, you mentioned kids etc so it must be fairly serious???
i buy houses ........... any condition.

Bermuda John is so right! Besides, you did it, you can't turn back the clock so don't beat yourself up about it - remember all the fun you had instead. The memories never leave you, I graduated 8 years ago and it feels like yesterday!

Cheers Becca, have a wonderful Christmas!

Instead of catching a taxi, which would cost 15 return, me and me chapo are getting the bus - a total of £3 return. The bar is semi - free, bears and wine are free, spirits cost more. So, i am sticking to the wine, even though it makes me feel !!!!e in the morning! So proud of myself!
  • great start! but have you budgeted for the Alka Seltzer for tomorrow morning?

Hi Beccal, I have no good advice really, except I understand where you are coming from, I recently graduated and have crappy south west wages too - its not a pleasant mix! I recommend the OldStyle Board for making food etc at home, ive now cut the budget to £100 per month for food for me, boyf and cat, and we are still alive. Good Luck Hun!
