How do you define marketable? If no-one wants those skills then it is time to rethink.Lisadp1970 wrote:Any decent lensers for someone with Dire Credit History?
Hi
I desperately need a new car as the one I've got is costing a small fortune in petrol to run (about £50 a week) and is looking really tatty and running like a pig.
I only want to borrow £3000 and have come across a few websites that "guarantee" anyone a loan, but I'm worried that they might be slightly dodgy!
I've got a CCJ and mortgage arrears and according to the websites I've found that doesn't matter, but I'm concerned how genuine they are.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
LisaLisadp1970 wrote:As for my mortgage arrears, thanks for your concern, but I've got an agreement with NR to clear these so getting a loan will make no difference anyway!

The bottom line is that you are living above your means. If the high salary is gone for the foreseeable future, you have to reduce your spending and prioritise your debts.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. The banks are still hiring IT contract guys. My husband is still working but likes to put the feelers out and has been put forward for jobs for a couple of banks this week (he is mainly Java, C++, plus a few others I can't remember). I understand his skill set might be different but can your husband use his free time to learn and take some exams in different programming types, and extend his skill set a bit?0

Is that not an oxymoron?Lisadp1970 wrote: »Until you find yourself in this position please try to be a little less abusive.
I didn't see anyone being abusive towards you. People were being honest with you and not even in a harsh manner.
Maybe you could get a job working in the evenings when your husband is home after work and could look after the children or maybe he could look for something like part time IT work from home that he could do after work?
You're in a difficult position but it's not a new thing, lots of people (me included) have been in similar situations and you just have to work through it as best as you can and lots of times swallow your pride and lower your expectations. You can't afford your house and you very well may have bite the bullet and deal with the consequences of your actions and the hand of fate you've been dealt. Sorry if you think that's abusive as well, but that's how I see it.
Also maybe you should take professional advice and not listen to strangers on the internet when it's as serious as this.?0 -

Also do not advise on the Mortgage Conduct rules unless you know anything about them.
I have been told by the National Debtline that banks are obliged to treat customers fairly and assess each of thir financial situations individually, those rules have been laid down by the FSA, what I want from people on this board is any help or words of wisdom from someone who has been in this situation themselve, not be preached to by those who know nothing of being in difficult situations!
Actually now I read this again and I looked at your previous posts, you're the one who is coming across as abusive and a bit of a liar tbh. You say you lived off savings and then say you've never saved because you like spending money too much.
Don't go on an internet forum asking for advice and then abuse people when they give you advice you don't like. Stop buying whatever crap it is you are wasting all your money on (£2500 a month and you're broke?!) and take some of it to a broker or financial adviser who will tell you the same thing.
Your son is the one in school, I assume. If you cannot get him to school because you cannot afford a car then the LEA will have to provide transport. If he is autistic and cannot use the standard transport then they will have to provide a suitable alternative. You can't afford to drive about, you need to consider using the bus or walking like the common serf. If playgroup is too far away then find one in walking distance.

1, if you lose your contract and find that your role never comes back
2, your role continues during this period but the money drops down and down in the meantime eating into your savings.
3, You find yourself being the only person in the household who can work because you have a disabled child.
4, Various other disasters befall you which just take all your money and leave you with nothing..
I have planned for all of this in advance with financial, family and career planning.
I'm not saying nothing can ever go wrong, but I've thought it through in advance.Until you find yourself in this position please try to be a little less abusive.
I have not been abusive.
I won't be in the posistion you mention because I simply won't take on a debt for something I can't afford evenif I lose my job and my ability to work ever.
I have a car worth about £100. It's a pile of rust.
I prefer a pile of rust and being secure in my financial planning.

Well OP was online, at around 6pm, so hopefully she will have taken advice given on board.
OP if you want help and advice don't be afraid to ask. It is only an internet forum. You may a better response if you don't bite back at comments made.
You have put yourself in a difficult financial position, so do take the opportunity to discuss your options. Best of luck whatever you decide.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My take on the situation is for the original poster to try the Citizens Advice Bureau
In my view the charge is a penalty that was apparent at the start of the contract. However the participants could not imagine the future. This on going penalty hinders the ability of the subject to make restitution of the full debt. Some compromise is required .

I spoke to some girl on the phone who said that under T&C's etc they were entitled to do so, I told her that I am damned if I'm going have £55 a month of money we are really stretched to find, go and line the banks fat cats pockets rather than help us out of the financial mess we're in!
Sadly she will not be getting fat cat pay and will be very worried about her own job security.

i think the OP was just asking for simple advise, i too have read new rules on mortgage lenders being fair in situations where mortgagees are having difficulty.
no one here knows the OP situation, and the saying " there but for the grace of god go i"" ring in my ears at the moment.
everyone of us could hit hard times no matter how many contingency plans and savings we have anyone could find themselfs in a bad situation and not always through our own misguided or stupid actions. the loss of a job is major and not always forseeable after all mothing is secure these days as it was years ago.
i would say have a little understanding for peoples situations, its a bit harsh to jump in and accuse people of the things accused of here.
not everyone has the finance available to be able to cope long term in the event of a job loss, and not through being stupid just not enough money to sustain big savings.
family situations are different, finances are differnet and family costs are different.
we are not all that lucky to have a situation where we are fine in any event, so your very lucky to have that priveledge, shame you feel the need to have that outlook on others who dont.
OP if you have been spending loads and being frivoulous( not spelt right i know! lol) you really need to sit down with a proffesional and look at your options, bankruptcy is one but needs professional advise, and im sure if your ready to really sort out your situation cab or debtline will be able to advise. good luck in whatever you decide to do
i have posted this as i do not have savings as i cant afford to save much, if i or hubby lost our job it would be very hard, i just wanted to point out that not everyone is in a situation to save enough to last a fair time without work.self confessed 80's throwback:D

the loss of a job is major and not always forseeable
I am interested to know why you think job loss is not forseeable.
The average is 3 times in your working life so it's actually "odds on" that it will happen at some point.
I've been made redundant twice myself.
BTW - Death is certain :-)
I totally agree with you about "everyone" but in not this particular case.i just wanted to point out that not everyone is in a situation to save enough to last a fair time without work
I don't know if you know about contracting but contractors get paid more than permanent staff. What they don't get is security, sickness benefits or redundancy benefits etc.
What many do is use some of the extra money to provide contingency planning in the form of either savings (self-insurance) or private insurance.
Most permanent employees get some form of sick pay, redundancy even if it's only legal minimum and some get much greater benefits offered by employers.
If you want to run your own company rather than be employed then you need to provide these things for yourself.
Generally I totally agree with your sentiment and I totally understand.we are not all that lucky to have a situation where we are fine in any event, so your very lucky to have that priveledge, shame you feel the need to have that outlook on others who dont
If people are living off benefits it can be really hard.
However the vast majority have choices about what they do with their salary and career.
In the context of this particular case, I can't agree that there was no possibility of making contingency plans on a £65K salary.
I don't know their costs obviously but contract salaries are way above the permanent equivalent (at least double) to cope with the costs of running a business rather than being employed and the costs of running a business include things like sickness and redundancy benefits.0
