Becoming a pharmaceutical guinea pig?

I need £200 to make sure I don't go into debt after Xmas. I remember reading articles about the film director Robert Rodriguez and how he financed his first film El Mariachi, by becoming a human test subject for various drug companies. I would like to do something similar. Are there any such companies in the UK, and how would I register? I have already considered sperm donation, but this is only £20 a time, with a maximum of 3 donations. Can anyone help?

I'd see what your own Doctor thinks about it first.

Personally, just the idea makes me uneasy.

In all sincerity, if you want to legally and safely make money from your body, have you thought about extras work or life modelling?

  • Hi,

Medeval are located in the building where i work, one of my work mates often does there trials. There is one going on at the moment about travel sickness, they gave him some pills - i think half are placebo's? (that kind of trial). He has to report back to them soon. Not bad for £130

  • I did a smoking trial recently - all I had to do was record how many ciggies I had and when in the day and they also took blood samples 3 times - not bad for £350. My other half also took part as a non smoker and had to record when he was around people smoking - again £350. The trial lasted 2 weeks and was through symbec

  • My original post was supposed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I seriously did want to find out more about these sorts of trials. Having looked at Medeval's website, now I'm not so sure...

    https://www.medevalvolunteers.com/asp/studylist/studylist.asp

then I Googled "Medeval volunteers" and found this:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/142335.stm
American pesticide companies have used British students and other volunteers as "lab rats" in secret trials of a powerful organo-phosphate chemical.
The volunteers, including some students from Manchester University, were paid £600 to take part in the tests of a toxic insecticide that reportedly left them with reductions in levels of an important brain enzyme.
The trials on behalf of the Amvac Chemical Corporation were carried out at the Manchester Science Park by Medeval, a company owned by Manchester University.

Anyone thinking about doing this now?
  • im slightly woried looking at the simbec website - they will pay you £2000 to test their and i quote " bubonic plague " vaccine.

slightly risky when you consider that most people who have the flu vaccine get flu - like symptoms for a couple of days afterwards.

  • I looked into this a while ago, there s one in Leeds called Covance. https://www.testwiththebest.com

They have trials quite often, more mens ones than womens usually.

Looked ok to me but I havent have the balls to go through with one yet.
