Letter from Capital 1 Sent to my Mum

I left the UK last year to pursue a job in Thailand and left all my credit commitments behind, with the intention of paying them off from Thailand. I managed to keep up payments until the start of this year when the company I was working for went BUST.

I have since been living abroad looking for more work etc, but have not been making any payments on anything in England.

When I left I set-up mail forwarding through Royal Mail to have all of my mail forwarded to my mothers address at the other end of the country. This forwarding expired in April this year.

2 days ago a threatening letter with my name and my mothers address was recieved by her demanding the money and threatening Court Action?

Now this is likely going to be the first of many as I simply have not had the ability to pay anything and have not negotiated with any of the card companies.

Do they have the right to send a letter to an address I HAVE NEVER lived at?

Could they apply a CCJ to my mothers address, even if I never lived there?

Any other suggestions on how I can deal with this?

Much appreciated

  • I think you should write a letter/email to the company explaining where you are etc to save your mum the grief!

Maybe she could just return any 'official' looking letters with no longer known at this address on them. But you are going to have to contact them somehow.

Thanks, I will tell her to do that with all correspondence she receives - sadly though you do not know my mother and she is not going to be happy with that.

I plan to contact as many of them as possible, however not sure if many/any of them will accept email communication. A list of the others include:

    Egg (CC)
Cahoot (CC + Unsecured Flexible Loan)
    Monument (CC)
    BarclayCard (CC)
    Barclays (Graduate loan + OD)
    Capital 1 (CC)

I had hope to be in another well paying job by now but a few of the options fell through. I am living on the equivilant of about 500quid a month here in Thailand with at most 100quid disposable to pay things off, but there is just so much I would not know where to begin. At last check total debt was something like 15,000 but probably gone up through non payment

Really appreciate any help and guidance here as do NOT want to have to go back to the UK to sort this out, as I fear I will never get to leave again
