Like you said with the car insurance pay for it annually next time.
Preferably with a 0% credit card - but make sure you let them know IN WRITING that it's a 'one-off' payment, *not* a continuous payment authority (CPA) if you choose to stay with them again next time.

Credit rating should be good, yet I did get turned down for a 0% CC a few months back (CapitalOne, who then offered me a 19.9% card with no freebies, of course I turned it down).
Although Capital One are known to be 'unpredictable' with application acceptance, you really ought to get your £2 credit reports to check there is nothing wrong.
  • Will get the credit report. Just had a thought, my sister has appalling credit, I've heard she owes a lot and cannot pay any at all as she now has a little 'un (great way to get a free house, or so she thinks). She moved out about 3 years ago, would this have any effect?

I always keep on top of car insurance companies, I've had bad experience in the past and so I'm always good to check how much it costs and when it's due. The good thing is they have to make you aware 27 days before the insurance is up that you will be running out. I know this as we got unstuck at work with home insurance (I work for a large, high street bank and we didn't print the letters). Plus, at 23, I have to ensure I get the best deal going.

It is possible. Check with both Equifax and Experian, these are the links for applying for the £2 reports via their websites!

I checked my Experian report and it was fine, however when I checked with Equifax I had a financial association with an ex-girlfriend who I had no joint debts with. Think it must have been because she was insured on my car. All it took was an email to Equifax and she was removed from my file and vice-versa!

The only bit I can't take in my car is an exhaust and I've tried to cut it up as well, yet I can't get through it. I have no idea how much it would cost to get it cleared, I am going to get quotes in the new year after taking the easy bits down myself.

As southernscouser said, you should be able to arrange with the council to collect the junk. You have to get it all out and ready to go. Just tell them you are clearing an old garage out. You will need to tell them how many items there are and what they are. This is already paid for out of your council tax and is for all residents.

You will be able to get the number from your councils website.

I call them out once or twice a year when I clear my garage out (I swear the junk breeds in there :p ). Also, if I'm off work, I just wait for the binmen then appear with my junk and ask if it's ok to chuck it in the wagon.

As already said, you seem to have your head screwed on, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. Plenty of good suggestions from everyone as usual.

My ex is insured on my car.... In fact, she still is. I won't remove her though as it didn't cost much to add her (about £3). Have to get that checked out I guess.

Well done on knowing where you're at financially.

Re gargae clearance, you want an angle grinder to cut that up. Though most exhaust systems come apart into shorter lengths.
I cannot get to work at night any other way bar walking and it's an hour walk each way, I've tried it.
1 hour walk must be aout 5-6 miles. Average speed of push bike is 15mph, so it's a 15-20 minute bike ride. I'm not saying sell the car or anything, but in the summer months you could save money and make yourself fitter if you want to save that little bit more.
    Happy chappy
  • A push bike might be a good idea as it will increase your level of fitness which will be useful in your 'Special' job. And if you completely clear the garage prior to giving it up you'll be up for a world record :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Good luck

    DFD 18th Dec2007 :D We did it!!!
  • Ok, I have the loan amount in my current account. Sadly it came quite late, the 23th Dec. Tried to contact my current car finance company on 24th only to be told they are closed and would be open on 28th, 29th and 30th. Called them on 28th, same message, they would be open 28th, 29th and 30th. So I've lost some money on interest. :(

When it's paid off though, I have a plan. In 12 months time, I will owe £4690.02 on this loan. I take home just over £1k so £400 pm into my savings should give me £4800 plus interest in a years time. Plus the extra money I have already could mean I then have a really good 2007, completely debt free, with a reliable car and everything I want around me.

Then it's time to save to move out. Is this looking realistic? It's my resolution to get at least 'close' to paying off the debt while retaining the car.

    Oh and HNY!
