Direct Debits - Can someone help?

I have recently started a DMP with Payplan. I thought I was going to add my Quickquid payday loan to my DMP so I cancelled the direct debit to them. My payment to Quickquid obviously did not go out last month as a result and I paid a finance charge of £40 to keep them at bay and not harassing me whilst the DMP was set up.

I then decided I would have enough spare money in my wages on the 25th November to pay the full amount (£250.00) with my wages that are going to be paid into my new bank account. I phoned Quickquid and they updated my banking details. I just need to know is that everything I need to do my end?(they claim it is). I have not received anything to sign or anything, so will it go out okay? Also will it be affected by me cancelling my previous direct debit with my old bank or will it be a brand new direct debit that is set up with my new bank? In short should everthign go out as planned from the new account?

    Can anyone help?
  • Can I just ask, have you given a list to PayPlan of all your creditors, including this company? I'm not sure you are allowed to give preferential treatment to one creditor, and they will expect the "extra" £250 you have to be split between your creditors, not just given to one? You really need to check with someone at PayPlan.

Hi my case officer has not sent out the offers yet, so it is okay. I just want to make sure it goes out okay. But I still dont understand the direct debit business :-( can anyone help?
  • If you have phoned Quickquid and given them your new bank details, that is all you need to do. They will take their money from that bank. You do not need to sign anything for a direct debit. I would just keep an eye on the account and make sure they take the correct amount. I would have been tempted to send them a one-off internet banking payment rather than a direct debit (they control the amount with direct debit, and direct debits are usually regular monthly payments) but as long as they take the right amount and don't KEEP taking monthly payments, you'll be fine!

Its a bit unclear. Are you making a SINGLE DD payment to clear the loan?
If so just cancel the DD the day after its been paid.
