Is my partner financially dependant on me?

I have to help my partner out with money fairly often which I don't mind doing, but I worry that he depends on me and is not self sufficient. He never likes to talk about money so I'm not sure how reliant he really is on me. I don't understand what benefits he gets and how different situations would affect it as he doesn't like to talk about money.
How does a single parent earning around £200 per week, half of which is spent on rent, get by?

It would depend on what the other 100.00 was used for? I'm a single parent and would love 100.00 a week left after paying the mortgage but I think that's wishful thinking ;-)
After all my bills etc I have roughly 30.00-35.00 a week which goes on food for myself and my daughter.
I think if you are helping out often, you have a right to know what you are 'helping out'. ie is it so he can have a night out or is it to feed himself.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Thanks.
He's fairly careful with his money. He likes the odd treat but I wouldn't say it's excessive. I might just find out about one bill at a time to work out where his money is going.
I'm very much a person that, when money is tight, likes to write down where ever bit is spent, but it's a difficult in this relationship.0 -
From what you have said your relationship doesn't sound very good. You give him money and yet he doesn't talk about money?! You don't know what benefits he is on?londontown wrote: »I have to help my partner out with money fairly often which I don't mind doing, but I worry that he depends on me and is not self sufficient. Are you saying he is a single parent? If he is working over 16 hours pw he should be receiving tax credits.
If you are a couple, you should be making a joint claim if any benefits are claimed or you are committing benefit fraud.Torgwen..........
