Paying for statements from Virgin?

I've managed to gather the funds to pay off my Virgin credit card plus the trailing interest for next month. We sent the payment via online banking on Friday, so it hasn't hit the account yet although I have rung them just now to let them know.

I would like to claim back my charges as I have worked out they have charged me at least £700 including interest.

My problem is I am missing quite a few statements. Maybe because I shredded them, but going back to when I opened the account in August 2005. So I am missing about 21 statements, of which I am fairly certain there will be some charges on. Maybe not the 2005 statements but certainly later as I have had a lot of financial difficulty being a full time student with no job. Virgin informed me they charge £4 a statement! I was expecting a charge of £10 for all statements! So this would be around £84 which is ridiculous.

I cannot access online banking as they have blocked me, and anyway they say it only goes back as far as 12 months.

Any way around this? I cannot afford £84 now even if I can add it to my claim costs for later.

By the way the charges they have made would cover over a third of the total debt! So I am pretty annoyed that they are charging such an extortionate fee for printing a few bits of paper off.

If its just a copy of the charges you want, send them a basic letter, no need to enclose payment as they dont charge - you can even ask for transactions and charges if you wish.

If its the full SAR you want ie all account notes etc, then you will have to pay £10.

I know cos I work there (ducks from the tomatoes)

  • Thanks.

Can I trust them to disclose all charges though? :o  ;)

Would be interesting to read my account notes. £10 tho.

Do I just write a letter asking them to write back with all the charges on my account?

Also, do you have the address I need to send them to?

  • I emailed MBNA and HFC asking for all my charges but haven't got anything back yet. I cannot afford to send them each the £10 fee for the rest of my statements, so just requested a list of charges.

Is it possible to start a claim for all the charges I do have proof of, then depending on the outcome, try and claim back the rest of the charges when I have the cash to pay for the statements at a later date? Can you make two separate claims?
  • yes, you can make 2 separate claims.

MBNA will try to respond to your charges list within 28 days, sometimes quicker though. Can i just ask where you sent the email to? Is just that sometimes it does get lost if not sent to the correct dept.
