  • It might be an idea to set up a spending diary to see where your money goes. It is surprising how the odd cup of coffee, magazine soon mounts up and before you know it..... it's all gone:eek: . Or try posting your soa up and the good people on this site might be able to help you shed a few pounds here and there and give you more each month.:D

I know what you mean though. I have just joined the November NSD challenge to try and rein in my useless spending - maybe that might help you to focus also.

Anyway good luck and welcome to the boards:beer:

I have a custom spreadsheet I built which I use to keep track of all money passing through my current account and that I spend on my cashback credit card. I have online banking, so I just update it once or twice a week from there.

It's nowhere near as complicated as some of the budgeting sheets I've seen, but it does use a category tagging system to divide up and track individual areas of expenditure (Supermarket Shopping, General Shopping, Special Shopping, Mortgage, Car (inc petrol), Utilities, Regular Bills, Annual Bills etc.), as well as overall totals, so I can see at a glance from month to month where spending patterns have changed - either for better or worse!

It also doesn't take cash spends into account, but I work on the principle that any cash I spend has either been withdrawn from my account at some point, or has been given to me by someone else and is therefore not part of my 'regular' money.

My next challenge is to create a a 'summary' sheet for it which will collate and graph progress over the course of an entire year - can you tell I'm an IT geek? ;)
