Debt help (Scotland)

Can anyone help me with some information, just had a disturbing conversation with my boyfriend, who confessed to having in excess of 45k debt!

His gross pay per month is £950.00.

Does anyone have any direct experience of dealing with the accountant in bankruptcy, as after along heart to heart we have established that bankruptcy may be the only solution as he has no was of paying and a debt advisor on payplan advised he would not be accepted into a IVA as he does not earn enough.

Any advice would be greatley appreciated, as we really do not know which way to turn.
