Nonsense from debt collector

  • Why don't you try B. T's choose to refuse service which enables you to block them from calling you again? Also you really should inform the OFT, i did over the Halifax harassing me over a debt, miraculously the calls all stopped when i informed the oft. I have a debt with capquest which i'm paying monthly i have to say that i have never had a problem with them, always found them to be extremely polite and understanding but i am obviously lucky as if you read other forums they can be really nasty and persecute people. Don't sit back and allow them to hassle you, take control and deal with it. You actually have a case here to sue them in court for harassment.

As you need your phone for your business, it may be worth lending your son the money to pay this off - if you can afford it.

You seem certain that he has learned his lesson – I’m sure you can reinforce how much stress, hassle and worry this has caused you. Hopefully, that will prevent any repeat episodes.

I am sure that he has got the message and will not repeat this mistake and it is a good lesson to learn at 21 most of us, including me take longer to learn. I wanted to make sure that he did not have a life of misery with debt that so many of us do, he has learnt the lesson the second time, I advised against the credit card as I know him very well, and he learnt the seconf time which isn't that bad. I am not spoiling him, I would not help if I did not know for sure he had learnt. Once I knew for sure he knew where he had gone wrong I helped him, life is too short for all this worry. I wopld not be helping him if I bailed hiom out if I was not sure that he had not learnt about easy credit.

That would get them off your back and you can get on with enjoying Christmas without having to worry about them. After all, it seems to be your that’s getting all the hassle, not your lad.

I could lend him the money and deduct it fom his wages, he works for me,but the point I am trying to make is that the debt is no longer a problem. Capitol One seems happy about the situation, it is Capquest that are being a nuisance, perhaps Capital One have not communicated with them. Because this is nuisance, constant phone calls, it is not a particular worry as I could pay it for him, I am now out working until Christmas so I will not get the calls, I wanted to make a point for peope in this situation and because the debt is not mine and I could pay it for him if it got really got heavy I thought i may be in a position to make a point for other people. Now I know what these debt collecting firms can be like I may be able to make a point and take this as far as it goes because I probably can and other people can't at this time in their lives. I think that when you have a real problem and even if you know your rights you cannot deal with this sort of harrasment if you have pressures from other places. Someone has to stand up to these bullies. I hate bullies and I have always done whatever I can about them. I am not spoiling him, he is my 3rd child, been through it all before and the other 2 have learnt from their mistakes it is so easy to fall into the trap. he has learnt one of life's lessons, when someone wants to make money out of you they are really nice, when you owe them they are quite happy to do anything including breaking the law to get at you. He has now learnt that even if he is doing the right thing to put his mistakes right it does not stop other people doing anything, right or wrong to get at you. it is a sorry lesson in life that you cannot trust people but a lesson well learned sooner rather than later.

Can you make it HIS responsibility to sort this out with Capitol One and Capquest? It's his debt after all. Frankly if my mother were being hassled multiple times a day because of MY debt, I'd be sorting it out as an adult as quickly as possible. I wouldn't expect her to sort it out.

I will, try this tomorrow not sure if you can do it if number is withheld. I will contact OFT on Monday too. I refuse to let them harrass me and I obviously would not give my son's mobile phone number, if you are out driving all day you could not possibly deal with this level of calls, I can because I have some life experience but for a youngster it would be overwhelming. I will get control of this situation, I think it is always easier to deal with if you are not the person involved and it is not about you. I would hate him to receive all these calls when he is at work, I am sure that it could cause a dangerous situation, I am grown up and quite capable but it has got to me over the past few weeks. These people have to be stopped.

What I have been trying to say, the people he owed the money to, Capitol One, seem happy with the effort he has made with paying off this debt, it is Capquest but it could be any debt collectors they all seem to be the same, who keep on and seem to be quite happy breaking the law and the complete lack of communication between the people involved which is actually causing theproblem. He had a debt, and sorted it out as he should have done but the situation seems to go from bad to worse and the harrassment has reached unbearable levels that no one could cope with

If you write to them requesting that they don't phone you again, and all future correspondence is in writing, then if they phone after this they are in breach of the 1949 Telegraphy Act - which is a matter for the CPS.

I should put this in a letter to them reminding them of this fact - I did this for my mother when she was being harrased by the same firm - and guess what?

    The calls dried up immediatly.

I have choose to refuse with BT, you can block withheld calls it makes no difference whether or not the number is dispalys or not. I personnaly feel its well worth the money and i totally agree harrassment and bullying form debt collectors has to be stopped. good luck
