Returning faulty HD Camcorder to play.com

Hello all,

In June 08 I purchased a HD camcorder for £680 from play.com. When I first connected the camcorder to the tv using the HDMI out socket I noticed that the picture would drop out and I would usually have to fiddle with the wire to get a still picture, however now I have discovered that the HDMI out port on the camcorder is faulty. I cannot view my HD footage on my telvision anymore. I have purchased a new HDMI lead however I still have the same problem In that I cannot connect the camcorder to the television.

I can watch the footage back on my laptop however It Is just not the same as watching It on my 40'' HD TV.

I need to return this to play.com however I have tried going through the returns page on the website and it states that I only have 28 days to return and therefore will not let me select the item to return?

Can anyone help? Thanks!

  • It should be guaranteed for 1 year regardless of their returns policy.

If it was a shop I would march in with it and ask for a replacement/repair - this fault is within 6 months so should be assumed to have been there at manufacture.

I would say use the general "contact us" button but I can't find one, and the returns policy does seem to say 28 days.

Personally I would contact both Play (somehow - maybe phone?) and the manufacturer stating the problem - whilst Play SHOULD honour the guarantee it could be difficult to persuade them to so it would then be down to the manufacturer. Do this ASAP to ensure it remains within the 6 months - outside that time you start having to prove it was a fault as opposed to something you did.
