problem with Nat West ATM

My wife and I have just returned from a four week cruise to the USA on the day before we set sail I went to my local village shop which is a One Stop. They have a Nat West ATM from which I withdrew £200 from my RBS account. The machine only dispensed £30, however £200 had been withdrawn from our RBS account, leaving me £170 short. Bringing this to the notice of the Shop manager I was told that I would have to take it up with my bank. My bank confirmed that £200 had been withdrawn from my account and that they would need to apply to the ATM at the Nat West (Nat West are part of RBS). The following day I called in to the RBS. (I have had an account with for over 30 years) at Basingstoke armed with the ATM reciept which confirmed that I had only recieved £30 of the £200 requested. I told them we were going away on holiday that day and that I was relying on them to recover our money. On return from our holiday we were shocked to discover no letter of apolgy or explanation why Nat West had short changed us to the tune of £170 and our bank statment showed no refund. Our bank informs us that they are still awaitng a reply from the National Westminster Bank. Has anyone had a similar experience with ATM dispensers deducting more from their accounts than they pay out? Perhaps that is why they do not charge for this service!! Peter

You may need to put your complaint to the bank in writing. In the meantime check this website for more information www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk0

jsut wanted to say this happened to me a few months ago, i withdrew 160 but recieved no money, even though the money was deducted from my bank account. I had to go into my local halifax branch for them to make a claim against the Post office (who's ATM i used) and was told that it could take up to 4 weeks to get the money refunded back into my account, there was no number for me to chase and they told me that no one would call to say the money was refunded and that i had to keep an eye on balance myself!!
I think it is terrible the way that they are so blase about it hapeening, but to me that money was alot to be out of pocket especially for potentially up to 4 weeks! i ended up getting the money refunded after 2 1/2 weeks, but no apologies no nothing, the money just appeared back in my account.0 -
Hi Peterball, don't be too alarmed, the procedure to recover the £170 is fairly straight-forward. Go into any RBS branch and complete an ATM dispute form. It is only available in branch and is a very simple form where you will be required to enter the details of where the Natwest ATM is located, the date and approximate time of the withdrawal, the amount that you received and how much was actually debited from your account. Be sure to take in the bank card used and the Branch staff will look at the account just to confirm the amount taken out etc. They will then raise this with NatWest on your behalf. NatWest should have also noticed an imbalance on the amount drawn from the cash machine anyway but they will only deal with the query through
RBS.
This happened to me recently where I used my Lloyds tsb card to withdraw £50 from a Barclays ATM but only received £20 when in fact the £50 was debited. I followed the procedure mentioned above and was refunded within 5 working days.
Best of luck (*_*)DFD: 27th Feb 2015 (£7100) :j0
