Cake and flowers

Evening all,
Advice would be appreciated! I am getting married about 150 miles away from where I live, we are heading down the morning before. Should I source cake and flowers at home or near the venue? Would the flowers be ok to be collected on the Friday morning for the Saturday afternoon? How will the cake be after the journey?
I'm not sure what to do!

Hi,
We are getting married in Yorkshire and currently live in Kent so are experiencing the same issues! Basically I'm working on getting everything organised to be based where the wedding is. We've booked the chair cover company who provide a set up service in the town where we're getting married, and the cake maker and beautician are local. I'm also getting my dress from about 20 miles away from where my parents live, so I can collect it on the Friday and drive down to stay at the venue Friday night. I haven't booked the florist yet but they are based where the wedding is.
I'd like to drive up there with a suitcase for the honeymoon, wedding rings, favours, and hopefully everything else will be sorted for where the wedding is.One day I will be out of my student debt, one day... :beer:0 -
We live in Lincolnshire and got married in North Yorkshire.
My friend did both the flowers and the cake and transported them in the back of her car - she did the bouquets the morning before then drove up with them in buckets kindly lent by the florists. The venue kept them in their cellar overnight and she put the ribbons on them and made the buttonholes the morning of the wedding (only 30:eek:).
The cake travelled in bakers trays and was set up on the morning (it was fairy cakes). Nothing suffered and they were absolutely gorgeous.
So really it's up to you - it was easier to do a trial run with things being closer to home - it depends how much control you need to have I suppose
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

If you do end up having to travel with the items, the cake will be in individual boxes, just put a blanket or similar around it to stop it moving about in the car seat/boot.
As for the flowers, they should be okay overnight, as long as you give them water. I would use a spray mister to keep them fresh while in the car.
You should really find out prices for both home and away before making any decision.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Hi Lorne
You could try sourcing a cake and flowers nearer to the venue that way you won't have the fuss of transporting these yourself because at least the cake maker will (if they are any good) deliver the cake to the venue and set it up for you. Flowers might be fresher if sourced local to the venue because they will wilt in a hot car and may also get bruised.
Hope you have a lovely day.0 -
Thanks for all of the responses. I am now not so panicky about making a decision, now that I know that transporting is an option. I'll have a look at suppliers home and away and look for the most cost effective. We are going to take our campervan so if bought at home the flowers could be chilled for the journey in the cool box or fridge, I'll see if the florist thinks that is a good idea!
Thanks again, LornaThanks for the advice Martin! :money:Member no. 920 - Proud to be dealing with our debts0 -
Our cake traveled 80 miles on the back seat of a car and was stunning! The flowers came from a florist less than a mile from my house though...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls...
