I had this palaver with powergen, they flatly refused to speak to me as the bills were in dh's name although the money came from our joint account and the fact that I had previously dealt with things before. Some jumped up phone answerer started spouting the DPA at me until I told him to go and retrieve the original contract that had been signed to see who had signed it therefore who they could talk to. As my dh had been at work I had arranged the switch to them and had done all the paperwork etc, my dh's details were no-where to be seen. Funnily enough the bills come in joint names now :rotfl:0

I have the same trouble with my husband's info.
Last year I became almost deaf in the space of an hour, so find it hard to talk on the phone; I have to rely on hubby to deal with any fiddly phone calls.
And would you believe that most of the time all he has to do is say to the person at the other end that I am hard of hearing, so he will be dealing with the problem, and they talk to him, without any confirmation from me, even when its an account in my name.
Perhaps all us women should say our husbands/partners are hard of hearing, and see if that helps!!!0 -

honestly, it's easy for someone to say how often do you need to make changes - but you never know when you might want to contact them. Lately, we've been cancelling PPIs as we got other cover. When we were dealing with trying to get the missold PPI back from our Tesco loan, I nearly went dotty trying to sort it. DH finally got really irate and got on the phone and told them if they didn't deal with me, they'd have to deal with him - and that he was by far the least patient person in the household. They decided at that point speaking to me was probably the better option. Obviously, I can't have DH yell at everyone on the phone (although I suppose it's an option that might go along with that "hard of hearing" thought process).
And I have to say I'm concerned as EVERYTHING goes in his name - even if my name is on the account as well - because he's listed as PRIMARY. How will I ever have credit in my own right? And what would happen to me if DH was ill in hospital or worse and couldn't step in on the phone ??
Yes, I can do some by post and have DH sign it, but as an intelligent adult woman who has (prior to being SAHM) worked all her life and paid bills and is quite capable of handling the accounts - I resent being told they still have to check with my husband even though my name is on the account or he's already advised them they can deal with me!
As far as the poor unfortunates who have had their accounts messed with by their ex's - I have had it happen before as well - once. My ex (after we separated and he was kicked out) attempted to cancel my electricity services by calling in - he had the info still and knew the password obviously - they by chance called to double check something with me and I found out prior to services being cancelled thankfully, but then set up a new password - and then called my other accounts and did the same. I'm sorry but if DH tells them he wants me to be able to make decisions on the account and he's happy with that - that is HIS responsibility. They're not going to be held liable if I do something stupid - not that I would. If a husband is worried his wife might cheat and fund a holiday for her and her lover, maybe that option is not good for him. But that's between husband and wife, not credit card, surely?? The company I spoke to wouldn't even send the stupid form for DH to read and sign based on my request - DH had to actually CALL them and request the form himself! Just the height of stupidity, IMO.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -
I used to have the same problem bank and utilities not speaking to me but as my husband grew more deaf and his questions and answers got more obsered. All he says now is you will have to speak with my wife sometimes they dont even ask for him so they must have it on record to speak to me.0

Ah..one of my most annoying bugbears.
I have always had financial control (well when I was married) out of the two of us and was always the one to set all the accounts up etc but utility companies and banks have an annoying habit of putting MR and Mrs ..... on their accounts, thus making the male partner the primary account holder even though it was the female partner who arranged everything.
I had one famous conversation with BT when me and OH split up, we (well actually me as by that time I was paying for it) had a large overpayment on the account which was being refunded, I rang to ask for it back and was informed that it had been sent back to the primary account holder. Well, I hadn't received anything so told them that. They then proceeded to inform me that the primary account holder was in fact my now estranged husband even though at no time in the account setting up process had he been named as co account holder and in fact just a few months previously, we had had to go through the hassle of getting him added onto the account so he could deal with any enquiries whilst I was at work but only as a named person!
To make matters worse, because they had now put him as the primary account holder, for me to continue with a phone line, I had to reapply for an account and put up with a loss of service whilst they disconnected the service from his name (with mine now as just a named person) and started up mine.
Oh and other half kept MY overpayment money after all of that!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

A friend of mine in the US found out her husband had cleared her account using her atm card, used it to buy drugs and basically wiped her out, disappearing for two days. She knew that he got paid on the second day, and knew all his security details. She decided to transfer all the money he had stolen back to her own accounts, and then get all his access to her money shut off.
She called up, and identified herself as him (making no effort to disguise her voice) and answered all of the questions. The person at the bank said 'You're sure you are Jason XXXX? You sure don't sound like a Jason.'
'My parents wanted a boy.' was her response.
Not much help, but it's fairly amusing. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Lol I have often wondered about doing that! (Just saying that I am DH that is not clearing out his accounts!) afterall who are they to query your voice, and even if they do how do they know you aren't undergoing gender reassignment.
If these companies don't even have the ability to deal with requests in writing or online with the account holder they should expect problems of this nature to occur.0
