Dog hamper

Ok so this may be pushing the limits in terms of both this forum and what people on here deem sensible - however! i'm still not loaded with cash but would like to treat my dog over christmas, on the cheap! Does anyone have any suggestions..? i realise that a Christmas hamper may be more about my wants than his! - I also have b/sil's pup and m/fils pup! Thank you :D
Just £10,852.28p to go...

:D

Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
And then do it.

I buy frozen value sausages from Tesco (99p for 20), cut them into bite size pieces (4 or 5 per sausage) and bake till rock hard.
They last for ages in an airtight container and my dogs go nuts for them!
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

I'v made a pet hamper for my MIL she has 2 dogs and a cat. I'v put some cat treats - sticks and drops and a little mouse, some pigs ears and some bones for the dogs and new bowls each, also got a tug toy thing for the dogs, total cost about £5 got the bits from B&M and the basket was 75p from charity shop. It will mean a lot to my MIL as she loves her animals.

There are plenty of recipes for dog/animal friendly treats you can make yourself flitting around on google if you take a peek

ANother thing me and my little boy like to make is bandanas for our pooches collar - we buy old shirts etc form charity shops (pdsa normally so helping animals again) and cut them up - cut in a triangle. sew a run in them for his orgiinal collar to slip through.

Its my little boys job to make Bruno (jack russells) present but he ends up being slightyl more expensive as he is a serial chewer so any toy we get him has to be made by kong - we tried the indestructable wilkos toys and he chewed through them in seconds and we even got him the correct red sized kong to begin with for a terrier - i think it lasted 2 minutes - he is now on a big kong, in the black rubber thats made for a dalmation. He also has a pyramid which keeps him amused and may get him a tug a jug this year.

Also if you were lookign to make a small stocking for them Tesco has doggy choccie coins in store for 99p
    Time to find me again

Pets at Home usually have at least one brand of dog treats on 3 for 2 or BOGOF.

I normally just buy individual packets of treats on offer and put them in a small box covered with wrapping paper. It works out lots cheaper than buying the ready made dog stockings etc., and they don't have an irritating squeaky toy in :D
Here I go again on my own....
  • Hello,

I think it's a lovely idea to treat your dog! I don't know if you have a local butcher, but in December I go and ask mine if he has any old bones he wants to get rid of and he always has a few that would otherwise be binned. I then pop them straight in the freezer and get them out at Christmas - much to the delight of my dog!

If you do go to a butcher, I'd advise a visit just before closing time at the end of the week - that's when they seem to have leftovers.

I think it's a great idea too eMminently. We always get my two a little stocking each. Only be one this year though unfortunately. My 12 year old lab had to be put to sleep yesterday as she had cancer bless her. very upsetting.
They always loved those marrow bones.
  • I think its a great idea too. But think im going to struggle considering I have 7 cats and 1 dog..x:rotfl:
  • I always buys a stocking for my dog, normally from the poundshop or wilkos, on top of that, she has roasted pork bones, bag of chocolate drops, raw hide shoes, the latter she has all through the year anyway...
I also buy her a xmas card, and send one to the fil from the dog, has they adore one another.... So I think it is a good idea!!!!

Wilko's also do lots of treats that you can pick up loose, cheaper than pets at home..
