I dont know how many people have read my past threads, but i have been stressing a bit lately as i have been trying to get debt free for our wedding but then found out had to move (as landlord wanted house back) and our costs were to increase by £700 a month. So have been a lil worried for a while, and tonight was sitting with OH and was talking about it and he said we may be in some debt but think of how much debt we were in last year.
So, I have just sat down and worked it out.
This time last year we owed:
Car one Finance: £16000
Car two Finance: £9000
Loan: £4000
Credit Cards: £1500
Store Cards: £1000
aDDITIONS DIRECT: £500
Currys Finance: £800
Thats over 32k!!!!
And we have managed to get it down to:
Car Finance: £5000
Credit Cards: £2300
Currys Finance: £500!!
By being sensible, and selling my car - although i adored it, we couldnt justify two cars, the cost of the petrol nor the finance, so that eliminated one car finance, and we used our xmas bonuses/xmas money to clear our loan and we sold alot of unwanted junk we had accumilated over the years. We are now making overpayments each month to clear the car finance we have left - thansk to some very good advice on here
Although i didnt consider car finance/currys as a debt, they are a debt and i need to accept that - so although our credit cards will be clear by xmas, we are hoping to have all the debts clear by about march 2009
I am so excited just looking at the credit card balance on my nationwide card - its now only 700 - it hasnt been that low since we got it!!
And looking at my little spending sheets and budgets, the thought of getting that debt down (ok i am probably really sad but i get excited at seeing it get lower
)
I am just counting down the days till next pay day!! so i can clear some more off!!
Am also in the process of claiming back my bank charges, selling some unwanted items on ebay, and hopefully claiming back a refund on something i purchased in march but STILL havent received which should be about £500 on its own! So all that will help
I think everyones stories have really inspired me so thank you all, every single penny i get/could be getting now i want to use to pay off a debt rather than go shopping!!!
To see the debt come down like that it is a fantastic feeling - defo just as good, if not better, than when i actually spent it!

Well done to you. Little suggestion though....have you thought about what you're going to do with the extra cash once the debts are gone. I would suggest that you plan to save a decent chunk of it so that if you need a car in the future you don't even need to touch finance.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
