Has tax gone up?

in Cutting tax
I just got my payslip and it is exactly £50 less than last month. On further investigation, it's gone out as Tax Paid. What's going on? That's quite a lot of change. Tax code and basic pay is exactly the same.
What news am I missing?

Remember the furore about the abolition of the 10p rate of tax earlier in the year? They decided to give us some tax back as compensation, £120 to be exact. Last month's pay would have included a £60 reduction in income tax, and each subsequent month up to and including March has a £10 reduction.
So, you noticed £50 less in your paypacket this month (didn't you notice £60 more last month?!).0 -
I only started my job 1st September. It was a new wage so I didn't know what the take home would be. I'm disappointed with that. I'm on 2k more than last job, but looks like I'll only be taking home an extra £20 a month. Doesn't make sense to me0

It's a new pension - I'll investigate if that's a bigger percentage of salary.0

without the full figures its impossible to say
but 2000 extra should mean an increase of round 166 gross which is about 100 after tax, NI and say 6% pension asssuming your are a standard rate tax payer
what increase is there in your gross pay
what is your tax code (now and on the previous job)0 -
I've just realised what it is. When I was offered the job (June) it was a 2k payrise, but I've just realised in my last month of work (July) I was given an annual increment and the Universities went on a single pay scale. Therefore in July I actually got a 1500 payrise. I've been comparing the new figure to this. It's about 125 more than my June payslip. Oh well, thanks for all your help. Still gutted about the 50 quid from the 10p tax thing0

But there is no £50. You get £120 back (from the extra £600 allowance) over the whole year. Precisely £10 per month. But it wasn't effected until Sept so (6 months in) you got charged £60 less in tax. Then £10 per month less for the remaining 6 months.
So Sept was £60 more than August and Oct is £10 more. When you got your rise in July ..... you didn't complain it made June look paltry? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Your reply has confused me - so don't be surprised by me getting confused with it all!! Anyway, if you want the full story which happened about my confusion:
1. Universities have had big increases over the last couple of years. I haven't been able to keep up as I had about 7 payrises in about 3 years (and I only started my new job on 1st September but I've had 1 payrise and expecting another next month)
2. I officially left 6th August but with holiday owing, I left 16th July, sold my house July 28th, and moved into a campervan as I had no where to live and didn't want to jeopardise my house sale. Anyway lots of stuff went into storage and mail was forwarded to my mum's house. My payslips for July and August were sent to my mum's - the rest were in storage
3. As I didn't have my historical payslip data to hand, and because of these payrises kept coming and because I'm stupid when it comes to tax. I got really confused and couldn't work out a) if I was actually on a better wage in my new job and b) Why did I have less money this month than last month in my new job. I only had at that time the July slip (but having retrieved my stuff from storage last week, I knew my payslips were now in the garage) I hunted out my June payslip after my original post and with this forum telling me about the extra money - it all kind of makes sense. But as I'm getting a 5% payrise backdated to October at the end of November - I'm not going to start gaining clarity until December
So ... that's the full story. You probably now realise why I didn't elaborate in the first place0 -
Do indeed. But despite the apparent blip in Oct ...... rest assured the net pay is on the increase ..... and trust you'll be re-united with all your payslips and other belongings soon.
Just rest on the premise that on top of all your other increases ..... you've been relieved from paying £120 tax this year. It's just that it's been delivered in a chunk of £60 followed by 6 x £10's. Hence the false impression of a £50 dip.
If I was living in a campervan - doubt I'd have noticed it. Trust that's either finished or very close to ..... it's getting a bit cold for it now.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
two weeks in new forest then moved to a rented house. I had two dogs with me as well - it was great. Yes, it was the £50 dip I noticed as I'd worked out my net salary on my first wage packet and then got shocked today when it was 50 lower.0
