WHSmith Wages

Hi there. I started working for WHSmith on 6th October 2008 and have just received my first wage slip.
My wage slip tells me that I have worked 108.33 hours at £5.52 per hour... think you can spot a mistake already (they haven't paid me at the current national minimum wage rate of £5.73 per hour, and have instead used the one before)
What I would like to know is how I go about getting this rectified. What I don't get is that if I started AFTER the current national minimum wage came into effect, then why am I having this problem? WHSmith source their wage dealings to a company called Ceridian who are based in London.
Also, I am trying to work out my hours as I don't know how they ended up with a figure of 108.33 hours.
Can somebody please tell me what 1 hour take away 10 minutes is - its not as easy as it looks because the answer I would typically expect is 2.50 hours but this means 2 and a half hours. I am so confused!

.5 is half an hour in hours worked terms so i imagine its .9 (ten minutes off an hour that is)0 -
Ask them to rectify it.If you are under 18 the minimum wage is not 5.73.1 hour take away 10 minutes is 50 minutes. To convert them to hours you divide by 60 and you get 0.83.
Alternatively you could report your employer for breaking the law if they have underpaid you.0 -

I am actually 26 so the NMW of £5.73 applies to me.0 -
That .33 looks like 20 minutes to me. Do you think the number of hours (excluding unpaid breaks) looks right?Signature removed for peace of mind0

.83 of an hour.
Many years ago i used to work to a labour management system and all times were to decimal fraction of a full hour.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

well interestingly the only breaks i am entitled to are either 15 minutes or 30 minutes, so how the .33 got there I don't know. I did arrive 10 minutes late one day (not my fault) so I would expect them to deduct 10 minutes... but even then it doesn't tally up.
Also, an update to my original post - WHSmith have put their hands up to paying me at the wrong rate, but say that they have overpaid me by 3 hours... the plot thickens.0 -

Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people

It is not right, something which WHSmith have confirmed. Although I have been underpaid in rate of pay, I have been overpaid in hours, and it transpires that I owe them 3 hours... though the .33 is still a mystery.
I worked it out that I had worked 89 hours (exc breaks) but they think different.0
