Just because you are paying by card meter doesnt mean that you dont owe money - unfortunately a lot of people find that they owe money because everytime there has been a price increase the meter hasnt been reset to take the extra money - ending up with a debt.

The best thing to do is to contact them , either by yourself or through an agency like the CAB.

Watchdog this week were doing a section on Eon - 3 of the big 6 fuel companies dont back charge but Eon is one that still does http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2008/10/the_backdated_bills_for_prepay.html
You could contact watchdog and see if they can help.

Energywatch, the fuel watchdog, was wound down last month (too successful for its own good) - its place has been filled by consumer direct - you could try there are see if there is any info that will help.

Whatever you do , dont ignore the debt - it could ruin your OH's credit rating

    Best wishes

You can write to them and tell them that you will only deal with them in writing, which is best in any debt situation as they can't deny having said anything they put in writing.

They should also give you a breakdown of the debt otherwise how do you know you owe anything?

Can you ask your phone company to barr their number?
