Cotton Handkerchiefs skin problem

Trying to do my bit for the environment I invested in a set of cotton hankies during the summer. All was well for a while but I now have spots across my nose and my cheek just beside my nose. This has never happened me before and I'm wondering if it's connected to using the hankies. Has anyone else had a similar experience? And if so what did you do about it? BTW I wash the hankies at low temp in tesco value washing powder and use vinegar to rinse....I'm obviously not keen to just get rid, think I'd need to be using them for a year to recoup my initial investment
Hope this is on the right board by the way, I wondered about placing it on health and beauty but figured I'd get more people here who are using cotton hankies...

Hi Belfastgirl!
Try buying some simple 'soap flakes' in tesco instead just for the hankies. Throw a couple of tablespoons full directly in the washer drum. It could be the active ingredient in the tesco value washing powder is making your skin a bit sensitive. Worth a try? Soap flakes are pretty cheap and there is a hundred uses for them if you google it. HTH

Belfastgirl, I have got 3 large cotton hankies and I find that they get soggy very quickly and I can easily end up with a chapped nose.

Maybe try handwashing them with a couple of soap flakes, they do dry very quickly and iron beautifully

Thanks guys, I have an online shop arriving on Wednesday and will order some soap flakes. Although I would be reluctant to get into doing a specific wash for hankies. In the meantime I'm going to go back to paper and just see if the rash clears up...it is bugging me having to wear foundation every day since I'm a low maintenance type
thanks for taking the time to answer.. 0
