On DMP - Can I Miss a Payment?

Hi
I am on DMP with Payplan and have been for 4 months only.
Now, my car needs 2 x tyres and an exhaust for it's MOT next month - it is an unfortunate and unbudgeted cost and I am really worried as we cant get to work without the car because of where we work.
I need to get the car sorted but that means cannot pay Payplan for one month - what are the implications of this please? Can anyone advise me?
I have exhausted (pardon the pun) other avenues and would be grateful for your comments.
Thanks and good luck all

Hi
Yopu really need to talk to Payplan andd you need to revise your budget to allow money for car maintenance if the amount you have alowed is not adequate. Make sure you keep it in an instant access ISA, so it is ready when you need it.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I fairly sure that if something fairly major happens - ie a car that needs sorting then you can miss a payment. You explain to Payplan the problems and they should let your creditors know you have an issue this month. I have heard of a couple of people who have been able to take a break for some reason. Please talk to Payplan and whatever you do - don't take any more credit or you will be breaking the terms of your dmp. Hopefully someone who has actually taken a break for some reason will be along to put your mind at rest.

Just call Payplan and explain to them that they you need to reduce the payment. I have done it before when I needed dental treatment that which ended up costing near on £600.
They will advise the creditors and reduce your payment for that month.
Be prepared for the onslaught of letters from your creditors though threatening you. Don't panic about these if you do get them they are just standard.0 -
Hi,
Call up payplan and talk to them-you really need to work car repairs into your budget and put the money aside as they will need things like new tyres etc. I have been on a DMP for nearly 3 years now and missed one payment when I lost my job (the first time this year, not this second time argh!) and they allowed me to miss one. Not ideal but if needs must...Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
hello,
I'm new to this site
I have been on a DMP for about 2 years now with CCCS, this year a few things happened and I missed 2 payments.. They were great, as long as you let them know..
However, be prepared for your creditors to start calling again etc.. But again as long as youre straight with them then they'll back off..
Good Luck and don't worry..

Thanks Guys n Gals
They did allow £20 per month on my SOA for allowances towards car maintenance etc but as I only made payments thats £80
The tyres and exhaust are £300!!
I will chat to Payplan and explain - thanks for all taking the time to help me with your comments much appreciated!

Speak to Payplan, they are brilliant.
About 18 months into my DMP I lost my job, and had to request a bit of breathing space. Payplan were brilliant, and allowed me 3 months of reduced payments whilst I found another job.
However, as other posters have mentioned you'll probably get letters/phone calls from creditors - all of which can be sorted out with an explanation.
Good luck!LBM November 2005: approx £32K :eek:Current debt: approx £12K :TGetting there one day at a time

Hi Culater,
My car failed it's MOT in September. I was so pleased with myself for saving £200 for service & MOT and gutted when the the bill came to almost £600  . I phoned Payplan and they said to reduce my payment by £400 for October. They notified my creditors and I also sent letters to all the creditors explaining the situation. Out of 9 creditors only CL Finance and TSB have sent (computer generated) letters questioning the reduction, I have replied stating both Payplan and I told them in advance and have heard nothing more.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it should be OK  .
Take care,
Sam,
x.
